Haiti Need Update: March 29th, 2010
There is still an extremely urgent need for tents and tarps in Haiti!
While the news has shifted away from Haiti, the housing crisis worsens! In some ways the lack of shelter is now amplified, given that Haiti is now in the midst of its rainy season. It is expected that tents and tarps will be needed for months to come.
Please do what you can to help us now!

The rainy season has hit Haiti and there is an extreme and overwhelming shortage of housing. To escape the rain, heat, sund and mosquitoes thousands of people are crafting dwellings out of scraps of cardboard, bits of plastic, sheets and sticks. These structures offer no real protection and won't hold up to wind or rain. We have a simple plan to get tents, tarps and rope to homeless earthquake victims in Haiti.
Two important points:
1.NOTIFY US IMMEDIATELY ONCE YOU HAVE SHIPPED A PACKAGE. DO THIS BY EMAILING jjohnson@tentstohaiti.org, and please include weight and content.
2.DO NOT SEND A TENT WEIGHING OVER 40 LBS WITHOUT CONTACTING US FIRST (NO HEAVY CANVAS PLEASE)
3.SHIPPING TENTS FROM MIAMI TO HAITI IS COSTLY. PLEASE CONSIDER ADDING A DONATION TO HELP OFFSET THESE COSTS
Three easy options:
1. Make a financial donation by clicking the donate button on this website. We are purchasing tents in bulk as we are able to and these donations also help offset shipping the tents to Haiti.
2. Purchase a new tent (tarp, rope) and send it to the address listed. You can easily do this by going to either REI or Amazon online. There are many tent websites available for you to choose from. We suggest 4-6 person tents along with a tarp and rope. Just have the products that you've selected shipped to:
3. Appropriately package and send only very “gently” used tents to the address listed. READ CAREFULLY THROUGH THE “DOES MY TENT QUALIFY” SECTION BEFORE CONSIDERING SENDING ANYTHING USED.
